are investigating what they call "a high number" of house break-ins that occurred within the past month.
"We have house break-ins occur throughout the year, but this is a high number for a one-month span," Lt. Brian Peters said.
Since Sept. 1, approximately six to seven house break-ins have been reported. The break-ins all occurred during daytime hours when residents were not home.
Break-ins have been reported at residences on Water Street, Atlantic Avenue, Riverside Street, Faulkner Circle, Sherwood Drive and Dexter Street.
The alleged thief or thieves entered the residences through unlocked doors and, in some cases, removed air conditioning units from windows and entered the home. Electronics, cash and jewelry have been reported stolen.
Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity to police at (401) 683-0300.
Anyone with information about the recent break-ins is asked to call the Detective Division at (401) 683-0994.
