Police Charge Driver With DUI, First Offense

The following is based on reports from the Portsmouth Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Portsmouth police made the following arrest recently. No other arrests were reported this week. 

  • Joanne Goode, 55, of 33 Beth St., Tiverton, was arrested on Oct. 28 and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. On Oct. 28, at 10:34 p.m., police responded to Anthony Road near the golf course to check a condition of an operator. Eyewitnesses claimed a vehicle had struck the curbing multiple times. Police found the vehicle stopped on Anthony Road with the driver asleep at the wheel. Her eyes appeared bloodshot, police said. The driver, Goode, admitted to consuming a couple glasses of wine. Goode was arraigned on charges the next morning.
