Portsmouth police arrested two people on driving under the influence charges over the Fourth of July weekend.

  • A 24-year-old Portsmouth man was arrested on July 6 at 1:50 a.m. and charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He was driving northbound in the southbound lane on Middle Road near Lilac Lane, when police stopped the vehicle and detected an aroma of alcohol. • Katie Azevedo, 34, of Westport, MA, was arrested on July 7 at 1:20 a.m., and charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test. A vehicle was seen parked in the breakdown lane of Rt. 24 North at Cedar Island. The operator, Azevedo, was found passed out behind wheel with the engine running, according to police reports. Azevedo apparently failed a field sobriety test and allegedly refused a chemical test at headquarters.
