Passenger Allegedly Punches, Slaps Driver on Route 24

The following is based on reports from the Portsmouth Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Portsmouth police made the following arrests this week.

  • Michelle Given, 25, of Bristol, was arrested on Sept. 14 at 2 a.m. and charged with domestic simple assault. Given, a passenger in a vehicle with a 32-year-old Bristol man, was traveling on 24 south when she became involved in an argument with the driver. She allegedly began to punch and slap him in the arm and face before he pulled the vehicle over at the weight station. She then left the vehicle. She was later arrested in Bristol.
  • Ariel Pena, 19, ofNewport, was arrested on Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. He was charged with possession of a control substance, Clonazepam. A vehicle, operated by Pena, was stopped on West Main Road at Turkey Hill for an equipment violation. Police detected the aroma of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search revealed small amount of marijuana, in which a citation was given, and 15 pills of Clonazepam inaluminum foil in the console.
  • Police arrested a man and woman on Sept. 13 at 1 a.m. after responding to a report of a domestic disturbance on West Main Road. Anh Han, 21, and Anh Hoang (same first name), also 21, of West Main Road, Portsmouth, were both arrested and charged with domestic, simple assault. The two allegedly became involved in an argument. During the argument, Anh Han allegedly stood in front of the doorway blocking the way for Anh Hoang. Anh Hoang then grabbed her, Han, and threw her against the wall. She then allegedly scratched and bit him on thearms. Hoang then allegedly threw her onto the bed.
  • Chrystal Coyne, 32, ofTiverton, was arrested on Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. and charged with possession of a controlled substance, Clonazepam. Police stopped a vehicle operated by Coyne on Rt. 24 for a trafficviolation. Coyne had a suspended license. Police observed her place something in the center console, which later turned out to be four pills.
  • ShannonJezak, 23, of Fall River, MA, was arrested on Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. She was charged with driving under the influence and duty tostop in an accident resulting in damage to an attended vehicle. A motorist told police their vehicle was rear ended on West Main Road near Flanagan Road.The vehicle left the scene, traveling north on West Main Road. The vehicle, with substantialfront end damage, was later observed near Turkey Hill. Jezak. the vehicle's operator, failed a field test and later failed a chemical test at the policestation.
