Nobody Hurt after Car Fire on Glen Farm Road

According to a police report, the owner, identified as a 21-year-old Portsmouth man, said his car caught fire after he got out to check out the scene of an accident that occurred the two days earlier.

The Portsmouth Fire Department made quick work of a car fire July 16 on Glen Farm Road.

The fire started shortly before 12:30 p.m. and nobody was hurt in the blaze.

The fire destroyed the car, which was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

According to a police report, the owner, identified as a 21-year-old Portsmouth man, said his car caught fire after he got out to check out the scene of an accident that occurred the two days earlier.

The man said he lost consciousness while driving and the car went down an embankment. 

The man said he wanted to see exactly where he went off the road so he drove there again, turned off his car, got out, and five minutes later, he smelled smoke and watched his hood catch on fire.

He then called 911.

The car, a 2000 Buick LeSabre, was towed from the scene.
