NJ Man Pleads Guilty in Portsmouth Girl's Abduction Case

The girl's abduction sparked sparked an interstate manhunt and Amber Alert and she was later found the next day at his apartment in Newark, New Jersey.

Daniel Berger of New Jersey, 28, pleaded guilty today to charges of traveling across state lines to engage in illicit sexual contact with a minor in U.S. District Court in Providence.

With the plea, Berger admitted to driving to Rhode Island to take a 13-year-old Portsmouth girl he met online with the intention of having sex with her last summer.

The girl's abduction sparked sparked an interstate manhunt and Amber Alert and she was later found the next day at his apartment in Newark, New Jersey. 

Berger, who has been held since his arrest, will be sentenced on Oct. 9 and prosecutors have asked her serve 87 months in prison.

Berger signed a plea agreement with prosecutors last month.

Prosecutors said they tracked Berger down after a tip from one of Berger's roommates.
