Newport Police Seek Info On Hit and Run Case

A 33-year-old woman was reportedly struck by a car on Ayrault Street early on Sunday.

Newport police are seeking information about a reported hit and run that occurred early Sunday morning at Broadway and Ayrault Street.

Around 12:35 a.m. on Sunday morning police responded to a report of a woman struck by a car near The Fifth Element. When they arrived, the 33-year-old woman was bleeding heavily from her head and eye.

She told police she was crossing Ayrault Street when a small gray car turned and hit her. She then felt her body go over the hood of the car and land on the street. The car did not stop and continued on Ayrault Street, she said.

Reports said her injuries were “serious but not life threatening.” The woman was immediately transported to the Newport Hospital emergency room.

According to a witness, the driver was a man operating a gray Toyota Prius.

There is currently no plate information and surveillance cameras did not pick up footage of the accident.
