Newport Native Dies in Skiing Accident

19-year-old Newport native was a sophomore at the University of Vermont.

Friends and family are mourning the loss of Kendra Bowers, a University of Vermont student and Newport native, who died Saturday after a skiing accident at the Sugarbush ski resort on Friday.

Vermont State Police said the 19-year-old was skiing with family and friends at around 11 a.m. yesterday when she lost control and hit a trail sign.

She was pronounced dead at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin.

Bowers, a sophomore, was also involved with an a cappella campus singing group, ZEST.

The State Police said Bowers was skiing on Lower Rim Run Trail at the time of the accident.
