New Report Reveals Police Chief, Deputy Chief Bonuses
According to a new investigation from The Hummel Report, the interim police chief received a $10,000 bonus for staying on after his retirement.
Portsmouth's Acting Police Chief Jeffrey Furtado and Deputy Chief Steven Cofield both retired this year, but they also agreed to stay on with the town in new "interim" roles.
The new roles also came with longevity bonuses, according to a new investigation by The Hummel Report.
The bonuses, pension payouts and new salaries in their positions, as well as details about a media "gag order," are outlined in The Hummel Report's investigation here.
Interim Chief Furtado has served as head of the department this past year while the town of Portsmouth searched for a new police chief.
Town Administrator John Klimm is expected to ask the Portsmouth Town Council to ratify his choice of a new police chief at Monday's Town Council meeting. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
