Man Who Took Portsmouth Teen to NJ, Sparking Amber Alert, Agrees to Plea Deal

Daniel Berger signed a deal with federal prosecutors earlier this month and was sentenced to seven years and three months in federal prison.

Daniel Berger has agreed to plead guilty to a charge of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual contact in connection with his meet-up with a 13-year-old Portsmouth girl last summer that sparked an Amber Alert.

Daniel Berger signed a deal with federal prosecutors earlier this month and was sentenced to seven years and three months in federal prison.

Police said Berger befriended the girl on the Internet and drove to Portsmouth last June and took her to New Jersey.

The girl was found a day after the Amber Alert and Berger has been held since then.

The Associated Press reported that Berger's lawyer said there were mental issues in the case.
