Man Allegedly Headbutts Girl at Founder's Brook Motel

The following is based on reports from the Portsmouth Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Portsmouth police made the following arrests this week. 

Teen charged with possession of alcohol  

Mark Hassan, 19, of 745 Union St., Portsmouth, was arrested on March 9 at 1 a.m. and charged with possession of alcohol. Hassan was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on Turnpike Avenue near Sprague Street. He allegedly had a bottle of rum on the floor between his feet. He was released with a court summons.

Fall River man allegedly headbutts girl 

Patrick Aylward, 39, of Fall River, MA, was arrested on March 9 at 9 a.m. at the police station. He was charged with domestic, simple assault.

Aylward allegedly became involved in an argument on Feb. 16 with a 17-year-old Middletown girl. During the argument, he allegedly headbutted her in the parking lot of the Founder's Brook Motel. Police obtained an affidavit arrest warrant. Aylward turned himself in at the police station. 

Man charged with possession of marijuana 

David Stebbins, 18, of 76 Thayer Drive, was arrested on March 9 at 4 p.m. and charged with possession of marijuana. Police were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle at the Carnegie Abbey Beach Club. The vehicle was parked on the beach. Officer stopped a vehicle leaving the area. Officers say they detected an aroma of marijuana. Stebbins, the operator, later turned over a marijuana cigarette to the officer. He was released with a court summons.

Woman charged with DUI

Laura Toscano, 47, of Middletown, was arrested on March 9 at 7 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), refusal to submit to a chemical test and possession of marijuana.

Police received several reports of an erratic vehicle traveling northbound on East Main Road near Oakland Farms. Police say the vehicle operator appeared to be under the influence. Toscano apparently failed a field sobriety test and, after being brought to Newport Hospital, allegedly refused a blood test.

A check of the vehicle revealed a small amount of marijuana in a glass pipe and prescription bottle of Clonazepam. The prescription was filled on March 6, but 11 pills were missing, police said. 

Toscano was arraigned before a justice of the peace. 

Teen charged with possession of alcohol 

Patrick Spero, 19, of 39 Cherokee Drive, Portsmouth, was arrested on March 10 at 4:30 a.m. and charged with possession of alcohol. Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Hargrave Drive. A search of the vehicle revealed a bottle of Jack Daniels Honey Whisky under the front seat. The driver was released with a court summons. 

Portsmouth woman charged with domestic vandalism

Samantha Cianci, 22, of 310 Old Mill Lane, Portsmouth, was arrested on March 10 at 1 p.m., and charged with domestic vandalism. Police were called to a Bay View Avenue residence. Cianci apparently became involved in an argument with a 24-year-old Portsmouth man. During the argument, Cianci allegedly took a rock and threw it through the apartment window. She left the scene and was later stopped on Bristol Ferry Road. 

Man allegedly punches woman in head 

Christian Monteiro, 31, 1 Dubois St., Portsmouth, was arrested on March 12 at 6 a.m. and charged with domestic, simple assault. The arrest was in connection with an incident on Feb. 26 at 10:30 p.m. According to police, Monteiro allegedly got into an argument with a 26-year-old Portsmouth woman. During the argument, he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and punched her in the head. He later fled the scene. Police obtained a warrant. Monteiro turned himself in at the police station on Tuesday.
