Little Compton Woman Charged with DUI after Crash

A 27-year-old Little Compton woman is facing DUI charges after an early-morning crash Friday on West Main Road.

Police charged Amanda J. Sparks, 27, of 451 Long Highway, Little Compton, with driving under the influence after she allegedly drove drunk and crashed her Jeep into a utility pole on West Main Road in Portsmouth early Friday.

Police said Sparks told police she had been in Newport and had too much to drink — a fact corroborated by her slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

Sparks, who failed sobriety test, was not seriously hurt in the crash that damaged her Jeep and bent the pole.

Police said they found an open bottle of whiskey in the Jeep.

The crash happened at around 1:40 a.m.
