Update: Firefighters Extinguish House Fire After 1.5 Hours

Crews extinguished a house fire on Lawerence St. in Middletown Monday.

Updated 12:25 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9 After an hour and a half of battling a house fire at 10 Lawerence St. in Middletown, firefighters extinguished the flames around 12:00 p.m. Monday. No injuries have been reported at this time. 

Middletown Fire Chief Ronald Doire said although the initial blaze was quickly extinguished, emergency crews had a difficult time reaching flames in the attic. "

"Middletown was first on-scene and helped evacuate people from the building," said Doire. 

Crews from the Middletown, Bristol, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Providence and Naval Station Newport fire departments were on scene. The cause of fire is currently under investigation.
