CVS Employees Smell Gas, Call 911

The CVS on Turnpike Avenue was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after employees smelled "gas."

CVS employees detected an unusual odor just before noon Wednesday and it wasn't due to a coworker's smelly lunch.

"We got a call. Several employees said they smelled an odor of gas coming from the back of the store," said Capt. Mike Cranson of the .

The store was evacuated just before noon, said Cranson. Firefighters checked the entire store and the roof area, where a heating system is located. 

"There were no obvious problems. We shut down the heating unit," Cranson said. "We deemed the store to be safe and allowed people to come back in."

The entire evacuation lasted about 30 minutes. The fire department also notified National Grid to investigate further.
