Council Approves Bristol Ferry Road Diet

The approval comes with a stipulation that the town can fall back to four lanes from two if traffic becomes too much of a problem.

The Portsmouth Town Council in a 6-0 vote approved a proposed road died, or lane reduction, for both sides of Bristol Ferry Road Monday night.

The vote paves the way for a 1.2 mile stretch of the road to go from four lanes to two and a middle turning lane will be created.

The council heard testimony from residents both for and against the plan before the vote, which comes with a stipulation that the road diet will get a test run and could be reverted back to the current configuration if traffic woes result.
