Bartender Charged with DUI After Driving over "Keep Right" Sign

Police said the 25-year-old Westport woman said she had two beers and a few shots before closing time at a local bar.

A 25-year-old Westport, Mass., woman is facing a driving under the influence charge after she allegedly had two beers and a few shots after closing time at a local bar and crashed into a street sign in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Police arrested Kayla A. Carreira June 2 shortly after 1:22 a.m. after she reportedly drove into a “keep right” sign on Boyds Lane, causing it to become lodged under her car.

Police said they were dispatched to the area after multiple reports of an erratic operator who crashed into a sign.

At the scene, Carreira reportedly smelled like alcohol and told police she’s a bartender at the Beach House Tavern and “yes I had two beers and a few shots” before leaving to go home, according to a police report.
