Alleged Jewelry Thief Escapes, But Not For Long

Portsmouth police made the following arrests recently. 

  • Michael Dodd, 30, of Middletown, was arrested on Oct. 4 at 10:30 p.m. and charged with the following: breaking and entering and, three counts, domestic, breaking and entering. Police were first called to Water Street on Oct. 4 at 2:30 p.m. for a report of a suspicious man. Officers saw Dodd walking and throw an object behind a stone wall. The object was a jewelry box containing several pieces of jewelry. After finding no homes in the area broken into, police released Dodd from the scene. About 45 minutes later, police said they received a report of a break-in on Water Street. The resident reported a jewelry box and jewelry missing. Police in Middletown later arrested Dodd on a warrant. He was charged with the breaking and entering on Water Street. He was also charged in connection with a breaking and entering that occurred on Chase Road in September. He was transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions.

  • Mark Hassan, 20, of 745 Union St., Portsmouth, was arrested on Oct. 5 at 1:45 a.m., and charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test. The arrest stems from a motor vehicle crash on West Main Road at Bristol Ferry Road. No one was injured in the crash. A vehicle, operated by Hassan, was making a wide right turn when it struck another vehicle. The operator, Dodd, had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, according to police. He refused a field sobriety test and later refused chemical test at the police station. 
  • Dylan Mello, 18, of 250 Brownell Lane, Portsmouth, was arrested on Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. and charged with vandalism at his school. Police were called to the Bradley School on East Main Road where Dylan is a student. Mello allegedly became upset and threw a laptop and headphones during a quiz, causing them to break. He also allegedly flipped over desks. Mello was placed under arrest and charged with vandalism. He was later brought to district court.
