Fill This Empty Portsmouth Storefront: el Parque

What kind of business do you think should go here?

While some businesses in Portsmouth have been around for "as long as you can remember," some have closed their doors, either due to poor economic times or simply moving to a new location.

, Portsmouth's only Mexican restaurant, recently announced it was moving to a new location. The restaurant is expected to open at a new location very soon, while its former location will become vacant.

We want to know what businesses you think would thrive in that location. What type of business would you like to inhabit this empty storefront?

I loved el Parque, but I could only get takeout there because my kids would have to use the bathroom when we ate there, which was located in the profanity laden "dive bar" that is Trembly's . Now that el Parque has moved, this place is back to being 100% Tremblys. A dive bar and nothing more! Trembleys has not changed since my grandfather cashed his paychecks there over 30 years ago...very sad...Good luck el Parque!

It isn't us who should fill this empty storefront, it is the landlords job to get someone in there and make it worth-wild for the tenant to stay.

Leave it empty. Until they either renovate it or demolish it. El Parque was a great business awesome food & great staff but the building is run down, the bar is trash, the building is falling apart. The landlord does little to keep it up. The El Parque side wasnt too bad (minus the floor, leaky AC, and the fact that you had to use the bar's bathroom) but once you crossed over to use their bathroom, you felt like you needed to take a shower. DIRTY! The walls have holes punched in them, that have been repaired dont get me wrong, but still needed painting (trashy). If you want a thriving restaurant a lot needs to be done to the place. Which will never happen because of the landlord (the reason why el parque left). Good luck El Parque!! Cannot wait for the new place! Anything is better than Tremblay's.

Not to sound rude but this is one of the funniest comments I've read in the p patch (sad but true). I've only been to El Parque once but the food was excellent and the waitstaff were wonderful. But I always had a suspicion that they wouldn't succeed at that location (I'm told it's been many different businesses over the years) I really hope they can succeed in a different location.

Perhaps a car wash for motorcycles. You can drink while you wait. Or a bandana store. Seriously though, It is sad to lose a high quality restaurant like this in our town. Fresh, innovative Mexican and American fare. Few and far between. Good luck to the El Parque folks. We are looking forward to your new location!

To Nurburg: They were there for almost 6 years, they succeeded... they are moving to become even more successful.

RT, wow I had no idea they were there that long. I've been out of state for a long time and had assumed they were a relatively new restaurant. Good for them.
