Fill This Empty Portsmouth Land: Clock Tower Square Plaza

What kind of business do you think should go here?

While some businesses in Portsmouth have been around for "as long as you can remember," some have closed their doors, either due to poor economic times or simply moving to a new location.

This empty lot on West Main Road in the Clock Tower Square Plaza near Custom House Coffee is under development.

We want to know what businesses you think would thrive in that location. What type of business would you like to inhabit this land? Or, would you like to see the land put to other use?

Put A Target There. Oh Wait, They Tried That Already. How About An International Airport?

Trader Joes or a Stop and Shop.

Just leave it as is. There are enough empty storefronts around town anyway without adding to it!

I would love a Trader Joes on the island!

planet fitness?

How about a Target or a Trader Joes or anything that would create tax revenue!?! So tired of people complaining about money and then fighting any potential to lessen the burden through development. It really is a conundrum that the PCC seem to be such good Republicans yet spear the effort toward shooting down business on this end of the Island. Planet Fitness is an idea too. Let's get you people on the development committee . . .

I like the Trader Joes idea - also a good place for medical or professional offices. Corporate offices for a technology firm - perhaps related to Raytheon or the Marine Trades? A fitness center? Stop and Shop and other big retailers (Walmart, Home Depot) are available nearby so not needed here.

Bring back the roller rink

I vote for a Bar and strip club so the church members have a good place to go instead of their church. They need to become worldly! Especially the pastor!

A roller rink sounds like a blast, now that is a good idea! I would also love to see a fitness center. Something nicer than planet fitness because they don't offer group exercise.

Trader joe's would not be able to come close to the service and value that Green Grocer and A-Market provide already - not to mention Clement's marketplace. Also because of RI law Trader Joe's cannot sell beer or wine so back to the drawing board on that one. I put a skatepark and/or basketball courts there. Frisbee golf course would also be great. Bowling alley?!

Some of us live in Portsmouth as to not live among the strip centers and big box stores. Perhaps, you should consider Middletown as your new home.

Well, that makes sense, we complain about taxes, know that our costs are increasing, under-cut all (three) town services, and when someone advocates a viable option we suggest they move. No wonder every administrator in town is "retiring" or resigning. We are sliding the wrong way and we are fine with that. At least you will have saved our bedroom community as people drive through Portsmouth to spend their money elsewhere. Happily for you, resident, i doubt big box stores see Portsmouth as being worth the effort anymore.

When folks come to look at Portsmouth to buy, it isn't for the trash pick up or sewer system . . . OR a Target.

A portsmouth - what a shame accessory shop. Shirts with logos of bridges, toll booths, septic systems, and a windmill. The town council could be on the shop's wall and this wall would be known as the wall of shame. I'd also off chinese food and bring in a local tattoo artist on Friday afternoon's. Oh, and maybe some alcoholic coffee from our local coffee shop would be offered.
