Obituary: John Philip Lawton, 70, Worked at Raytheon for 36 Years

John Philip Lawton, 70, of Newport, died Friday, July 11, 2014 at Heatherwood Nursing Home in Newport, RI.

John Philip Lawton, 70, of Newport, died Friday, July 11, 2014 at Heatherwood Nursing Home in Newport, RI.

He was the husband of 48 years to Kathleen (Burns) Lawton.

Born in Newport, RI on December 27, 1943, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Kelley) Lawton.

John grew up in Newport and graduated Rogers High School in 1962 and attended Roger Williams College. He served six months active duty with the National Guard from 1964 to 1965. He worked for Raytheon from 1966 to 2012.

Besides his wife, his sister Mary Ianetta of Newport survives John. His three children also survive him: John William of Raleigh, NC, Kevin and his wife Sari and daughter Abby of Fishers, IN, and Brian and his wife Siny of Manassas, VA.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 4-7 PM in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St, Newport.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
