Obituary: Henry Joseph White, 71, Newport Creamery Dir. of Maintenence

Henry Joseph White, 71, of Portsmouth, died peacefully at home on Saturday, February 15, 2014.

Born in Newport, RI on January 8, 1943. He is survived by his wife of 17 years Sandra (Smith) Ottilige-White of Portsmouth. He was the son of the late John C. White and Gilda (Cardoza) White. He also leaves two sons Henry J. White Jr. and his wife Stacey Fisher, John C. White and his wife Christine E. White, both of Portsmouth, two daughters Michele I. White of Portsmouth, and Christine M. Mumme and her husband James B. Mumme of Tiverton, RI, and step son Tyler Ottilige of Portsmouth, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and Cinder. Three brothers Alfred J. White of Sacramento, CA, John P. White of Attleboro, MA, and Carl J. White of Portsmouth, his in-laws William and Laura Smith of Middletown, and his former wife Mary P. (Cordes) White of Portsmouth. 

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Kimberly Ann White.

Henry graduated from Rogers High School in 1960 and completed additional educational programs through Brown University. He worked for the Newport Creamery for 48 years, retiring in 2007 as Director of Maintenance and Refrigeration. Henry was a member of the Sportsman Club of Portsmouth, Viking Riders, Vasco da Gama and Jesus Saviour Church. Henry had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh; he was loved by many and touched many lives. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and in years past he enjoyed farming and skiing.

Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, February 20 from 4:00-7:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Rd, Portsmouth. 

His funeral will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, at 9:00am from the Connors Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Jesus Savior Church, 1 Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
