Where to Find an Ash Wednesday Service

Today, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of the Lenten season. We've put together a list of area services.

It's hard to believe, but today is Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten season for Christians throughout the world. Much like the unseasonable spring temperatures, Easter is arriving early this year. 

Featured here is a chart of Ash Wednesday services to be held today in Portsmouth.

Time Location Description of service 7 a.m. St. Mary Episcopal Church Imposition of ashes and Holy Communion 7 a.m. St. Anthony Church Ashes will only be distributed following the homily. 7 a.m.  St. Paul Episcopal Church 8:30 a.m. St. Anthony Church Ashes will only be distributed following the homily. 9 a.m. St. Barnabas Church Noon St. Mary Episcopal Church Imposition of ashes and Holy Communion 5:30 p.m. St. Mary Episcopal Church Service will be held in the parish house. 5:30 p.m. St. Anthony Church Ashes will only be distributed following the homily. 7 p.m. Portsmouth United Methodist Church Ashes will be available. 7 p.m. St. Barnabas Church 7 p.m. St. Mary Episcopal Church Imposition of ashes and Holy Communion

Thanks for this posting. With the blizzard last weekend we were not able to attend mass and were unsure of the times for the distribution of ashes or when services for Ash Wednesday would be held. You posting of this information is most welcome. Thank you for your good articles and the chance for folks to weigh in on them!
