Co-Keynote Speakers: Laura BAckman & Lemon the duck

Author and school teacher Laura Backman knows a thing or two about disability. Her father battled multiple sclerosis. Backman’s hatched ducklings as part of a special project. One hatchling was found tohave a neurological disorder similar to MS. Lemon the duck cannot walk or stand on her own. Backman has developed mobility devices which assist Lemon, keeping her active and engaged. Lemon enjoys a full life as a celebriduck of sorts. In 2008, Backman authored a children’s book based on Lemon’s life. Her book, Lemon the Duck, introduces children to the concept of special needs and teaches them that life can be full even in the face of disability. Backman and Lemon, who reside in Rhode Island, will visit to share their personal story of living above disability. Lemon will be available for a meet and greet with children. She will also pose for photos with our young guests. Books will be available for sale, with all proceeds going to the MS Society.
