"Welcome Home" Oil Painting Raffle Ticket Sale

Framed 18"x24" Watercolor Painting.

Local artist, Paula Visnoski, donated her time and talents to American Legion Post 18 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 18 for a painting to raise funds to honor local Vietnam era veterans.  While Vietnam veterans were denied the welcome home all heroes deserve, they are often the first in line to thank current service members returning home. In this painting, a Vietnam era U.S. Marine Corps veteran donning a vintage boonie hat and sporting a tattoo of the 3rd Marine Division shakes the hand of an active duty member serving with the U.S. Army’s 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.  The colors in the background symbolize the Vietnam Service Medal and Ribbon, in which the yellow with red stripes suggests the flag of the Republic of Vietnam and the green alludes to the jungle of Vietnam The details and symbolism are striking, as is the look of mutual respect passing between the heroes.

Funds raised will help defray the cost of honoring local Vietnam era veterans at a ceremony on Veterans Day, 11 November 2014.
