Smart fruit tree management & pruning to prevent disease

Learn the principles of fruit tree pruning with an emphasis on pruning peach trees. Sandie Barden of Barden Family Orchard will discuss basic pruning theory and the techniques that have worked in the family’s orchard for decades. She will demonstrate using her favorite tools and offer safety tips. Sandie will discuss fruit tree management and disease prevention and demonstrate pruning various types of fruit crops.

Barden Family Orchard grows 15 varieties of peaches, 20 varieties of apples, blueberries and raspberries. This 3-generation, Pick Your Own orchard also has a farm market. The Barden’s also grow and sell pumpkins, winter squash, sweet corn, tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini and eggplant.

Everyone is welcome. This workshop is free thanks to a generous Specialty Crop grant from the RI DEM, Division of Agriculture. Please dress for the weather.
