Portsmouth Author Marguerite Vaillancourt at Portsmouth Free Public Library

Please join Marguerite Vaillancourt for readings from her
new book Chased from Eden : Coming of Age in Morocco and book signing at
Portsmouth Free Public Library, 2658 East Main Road, Portsmouth, on Saturday,
January 25 at 3 PM.

Chased from Eden is a series of snapshots of life in Morocco
during the French Protectorate.  Born in
France in 1924 and homeschooled in the countryside outside Rabat, the young
Marguerite grew up to the rhythms of her Moslem neighbors.  When Morocco fell under enemy control, her pain
at the Nazi occupation of France, the anguish of Jewish refugees sheltering in
Morocco, and the high casualties of her young compatriots would be tempered by
her embrace of the Allied landing, her marriage to a G. I., and her journey to
these shores on a troopship packed with war brides.

Marguerite Vaillancourt lives in Portsmouth.  Her stories have appeared The Newport Review, Crone’s Nest, and How the Weather Was, an anthology of
Rhode Island writers.  This is her first
book.  This enthralling collection of
related stories will be available for purchase and signing.
