Portsmouth Harbormaster Stephen Burns urges boat owners to remove their vessels from the water before it's too late.
"Due to this forecast, the Portsmouth Police Harbor Master's Office is requesting that anyone with a boat in the waters of Portsmouth remove their boat from the water as soon as possible," Burns wrote. "Even if the predicted hurricane does not strike directly on Portsmouth, we still anticipate high winds and seas which may cause significant damage to your boat and surrounding property."
In a letter e-mailed Friday, Burns asks all boat owners to contact a local marina, such as or , before the storm arrives.
