Portsmouth Abbey Students Named National Hispanic Scholars

Portsmouth residents Kimberly and Michelle Mehrtens, 12-grade students at Portsmouth Abbey, earn national recognition

Sisters Kimberly and Michelle Mehrtens, both twelfth-grade students at Portsmouth Abbey School, have been selected as 2012-13 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholars. The announcement was made by the College Board.

The NHRP was instituted in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. This year, the NHRP is recognizing about 5,000 Hispanic/Latino students selected from a pool of more than 253,000 who took the 2011 PSAT/NMST/PAA standardized tests. Students recognized as Scholars have achieved a minimum PSAT/NMST/PAA score and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Kimberly and Michelle are the daughters of Dr. Cristina Mehrtens, of Portsmouth, and Mr. Michael Mehrtens, of Miami, FL.
