State Reps Discuss Latest News on Budget and Tolls

Our Local State Representatives, Jay Edwards and State Senator Chris Ottiano were on the latest edition of Portsmouth this Week on Friday, discussing the very latest information on the State budget, which includes an infrastructure funding plan that negates the need for tolls on the Sakonnet River bridge. Newly appointed House Majority Whip Edwards had attended the late night session on Thursday that saw the budget pass the House with a 62-11 majority. The RI Senate will take up the budget today. Assuming it is passed, from there it will go to the Governor to be signed into law.

Both reps discussed the details of the Infrastructure Plan and the agreed upon funding sources in the budget to maintain RI bridge and highway infrastructure. We also discussed several other ongoing issues in the legislature. I couldn't help but make several comments thanking our two representatives for all of their efforts in drafting, polishing and overseeing the passage of this infrastructure plan. We should also thank Jeanne Smith and Ray Berberick for keeping the public pressure on this Bridge Toll issue, which would have been devastating to our local economy.
