Elmhurst Grant and Budget Status Discussed on PTW

Town Council President Jim Seveney was our guest on Portsmouth this Week’s Friday show, discussing the $100,000 RI DEM Open Space grant we recently received to help create a public park on the grounds of the former Elmhurst School next to the Glen Manor House. The site borders the Sakonnet River and public recreational facilities, including picnic facilities, walking paths, lawn and wildlife meadow areas are planned for this area. This future park will benefit all Portsmouth residents and complement the operation of the Glen Manor House, said Mr. Seveney.

Also on this Friday’s show were Town Administrator, John Klimm, and Portsmouth Finance and HR Director, Jim Lathrop. Both discussed the current status of the budget process and some of the key issues, such as the status of the Melville Campground. There is another public hearing on the Budget on 10 June to get public input. On 3 June, the Town Council will have a public meeting to review the status of the Portsmouth Wind Turbine, which has been idle for 2 years, and to come to a decision about what will be done.
