Delegation to England to Present Proclamation to Lord Mayor

A small group of 375th Steering Committee members plans another trip to Portsmouth, England, during the first week in June, to help them celebrate the "making" of a new Lord Mayor and to thank their outgoing Lord Mayor, Lynn Stagg, for attending our 375th Gala weekend last year. The group, which consists of Doug Smith, Gary Gump, Rich Talipsky, Bob Hamilton, Andrew Kelly and John Klimm will carry a Proclamation from the Portsmouth Town Council to present at the first City Council meeting held after the Lord Mayor Making Ceremony in Portsmouth's Guild Hall. Doug Smith and Bob Hamilton received the proclamation from Town Council President, Jim Seveney, on Monday.

As was the case last year, each member of this delegation will pay his own expenses, with no public funds involved. The group will also be promoting the formation of a Portsmouth Atlantic Compact between the four Portsmouths that are located on the Atlantic Ocean. This joint venture was created at a meeting of the leaders of these four communities during their Labor Day Gala weekend visit. The volunteer organization will coordinate collaborative efforts in the Arts, Culture, Education and other areas. An local art program started by Portsmouth High School Arts teacher Rose Escobar, with the theme of "My Portsmouth" will become part of a similar exhibit in Portsmouth, England in June, which will include our best local entries.
