Call for Local Artists: Get Your P.A.R.T.S. together!

Portsmouth High School Arts Teacher Rose Escobar and the new President of the Portsmouth Arts Guild, Wayne Quackenbush, were our special guests for an abbreviated edition of Portsmouth this Week, discussing her International Art Exchange Program called the PARTS (Portsmouth Art Reflection Tile-boards) Project. For this project, participants of ages and abilities purchase a 6" X 10" tile board for $10 from the Portsmouth High School Arts Department, the Portsmouth Arts Guild, and at Mr. Quackenbush's Annex Comics store on Broadway in Newport.
Ms. Escobar provided a quick demonstration of what the tile-boards look like and some examples of recent submissions. The general theme of the project is "My Portsmouth". Any media is acceptable as long as it is securely attached to the board and the deadline for submissions is 14 April. A group of local artists and professionals will select 25 of the tiles to go represent us in the Portsmouth, UK "My Portsmouth" exhibition which starts in late May.

This project is the first educational project undertaken by two of the four Portsmouth communities that comprise the Portsmouth Atlantic Compact. Check out their website at www.portsmouthatlantic.org
