Portsmouth's 375th Anniversary Celebration Effort Gathers Support

Next Year's 375th Celebration Planning Effort Needs You!

A second meeting of citizen volunteers supporting Portsmouth's next year's 375th Anniversary Celebration took place on Thursday at the Portsmouth Free Library. Approximately 40 people attended. A 375th Steering Committee (SC) was formed and several possible celebration events were discussed by the attendees. This included a parade, sporting events, historical reenactments, school projects and even fireworks.

Newly appointed Chairman of the SC, Doug Smith, told the group that many volunteers are needed to support this year-long effort and asked that everyone talk to their neighbors, friends and organizations in Portsmouth to get everyone in Portsmouth involved in this celebration of Portsmouth's Past, Present and Future.

Here is how you can get involved in this community effort:

1. Come to the next meeting: The SC will meet at the library on Wed, 5 September, at 5 PM and the Planning Group will meet at the library on Thursday, 20 September at 5 PM

2. Join the 375th User's group online at

3. Contact anyone on the Steering Committee and volunteer to manage or support one of the many events now being planned.
