Portsmouth to Hold Earth Day Kite Festival to Celebrate 375 Years!

The 375th Steering Committee hosts an Earth Day Kite Festival and More at Glen Park!

On Sunday, April 21, the 375th Portsmouth R.I. Committee will hold an
Earth Day Kite Fly and Re-make of the cancelled photograph of the “We love
Portsmouth Heart” at Glen Park. The day’s events begin with a 12:30 performance of the Navy Band Brass Quartet. Bring a chair.

From 1:15 to 3:30, Kiteman and Portsmouth resident Tom Casselman  will begin and afternoon of kite demonstrations and Kite flying with all interested, young and old alike. Bring kite.

At 2, we will gather to make the human heart, aided by the fire department
ladder truck and town historian and photographer Jim Garman.

At 2:30, Lindsay Adler will do music and environmental stories for young children
as Mother Earth. Lindsay teaches in Portsmouth.

Throughout the event, food and drinks will be made available from Portsmouth own Grill masters. Hamburgers, hotdogs and sausage and peppers plus soda and water will be for sale.

Adult and young gardeners will see the offerings for sale from Martin Van Hof ‘s
Island Garden Shop, a selection of garden type used items, and cut branches and
flowers at a Portsmouth Garden Club yard sale. Floral photographs used to
create beautiful cards and art will be available by Lynn Da Ros. Maplewood farm will be selling herbs to grow over the summer. The URI free soil test volunteer kiosk will be on hand  so bring a bag of your home soil to see if it needs amending this season.

Bounce Around of Portsmouth is providing a bounce house activity for children. University of Rhode Island CCEC division is providing 200 packets of free flower and vegetable seed for the first 200 children.

We may even have a visit form Miss Rhode Island Teen USA, Elaine Collado.
