Hurricane Sandy: How You Can Help

How Portsmouth Residents Can Help During A Storm

The Portsmouth Emergency Management Agency has established a new Internet Public Information team, whose job will be to update the EMA website blog, Facebook page and Twitter feeds but also to monitor social media for information affecting Portsmouth. Residents with non-emergency questions or concerns can call the business line of the Portsmouth Fire Department at 683-1200 or the business line of the Portsmouth Police Department at 683-0300. In an emergency ALWAYS CALL 911.

You can help out by reporting on problems that you see (e.g., high winds, flooding conditions, downed power lines, etc.) or damage caused by the storm in your neighborhood using Twitter or Facebook. This real-time source of local information will be valuable for Portsmouth’s emergency response team. By interacting with the EMA in this way, you can be of real assistance in keeping the Town leadership informed about the current situation in Portsmouth. Your actions could save a life.

How to provide information to the Portsmouth EMA: If you have a Twitter account, follow us on Twitter @Portsmouth Emerg. You can report local information to the IPU team by tweeting to #Sandy02871. On Facebook, if you have “liked” the Portsmouth EMA Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Portsmouth-Emergency/396097343789258 , your posts will also be viewed by the IPI team. You can also send the EMA an email at safety@portsmouthemergency.com , but please remember: In an emergency ALWAYS CALL 911.
