Blue Star Memorial Ceremony Held at Portsmouth Library on Saturday
The Portsmouth Garden Club's Blue Star Memorial Ceremony, unveiling the new Blue Star Memorial sign at Portsmouth library, was held on Saturday with many veteran's and local veteran's groups in attendance. This project took the Garden Club over a year to complete and included donations from many local Veteran's groups and individuals. The Blue Star Memorial sign is the first such sign to be installed in a Rhode Island town and honors the sacrifices of our veterans of all war. It was undertaken by Garden Club member Carolyn Evans Carberry, who told the assembled group on Saturday that this "was the best project that she had ever worked on."
The ceremony was also supported by Portsmouth VFW Post 5390, American Legion Post 18 , the Newport Artillery Company and the Patriot Guard Riders. A video showing highlights of Saturday's event is available on Youtube at http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6MCugPIJPNg&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D6MCugPIJPNg
