Portsmouth Man Aims To Revive Family Business

Joe Giacobbi recently graduated college with one goal in mind - reviving his family's Portsmouth business.

Giacobbi recently took over management of the Irving gas station on East Main Road, a property belonging in his family for more than 50 years.

The land once belonged to his grandmother, but his family built the current gas station four years ago.

"My family actually built and developed the property four years ago while I was studying finance at Providence College," he said. "We put so much hard work and effort into building the place with the goal of leading it to independent operators; however, that has not been as successful as we envisioned."

Giacobbi, 24, now hopes to turn the gas station and convenience store around. Many tenants, including Honey Dew Donuts and Boss Man Burgers, have left in the last couple years.

The gas station and store operator has now closed off this section. "I have taken over all aspects of the business and plan to turn it around...I have already transformed the interior and exterior," Giacobbi said.

The Portsmouth resident still hopes to lease some of the gas station's interior to other businesses in the near future.

The Irving gas station is open seven days a week at 3302 East Main Road.
