Greenvale Vineyards played host Friday night to more than 100 guests who were on hand to celebrate the local bounty from around the state and benefit New England FarmWays, who dedicate themselves to helping farm operators in southern New England through training programs, technical assistance and marketing support to promote their farms as "places of significant history, culture, ecology and beauty."
This year’s feast is part of NEFW’s 2010 Campaign, “The Farm – Southern New England’s Next Great Destination” promoting "agritourism" throughout Southern New England.
On hand for the event were local chefs including Steve Cory from Cory's Kitchen at Sweet Berry Farm. Winemakers Sue and Earl Sampsom of Sakonnet Vineyards presented culinary delights sourced directly from local farms.
Stu Nunnery, executive director of RICAPE, The Rhode Island Center for Agricultural Promotion and Education, reminded dinner guests that vineyards are farms and "places of renewal, not only for the ecology, but for the soul."
