New Shoe Store To Open Today in Portsmouth

Shoe Port, a "woman's shoe retreat," opens today in the Clock Tower Square shopping plaza.

A longstanding shoe store in town will see new competition today.

Shoe Port, which goes by the motto "a woman's shoe retreat," opens today in the Clock Tower Square shopping plaza at the former site of the Groovy Gator. The exact address is 102 Clock Tower Square, just off West Main Road.

Owners Mary Sease of Massachusetts and Ann Marie Escobar (no known relation to the Portsmouth Escobars) hope to bring an affordable, boutique experience to women shoppers in town.

"The store will cater to women," Sease says. "It's a 'boutique concept,' offering comfort and fashion. It's an affordable women's haven."

The store will mostly sell women's shoes with a few men's items, as well as hosiery and raincoats. Some of the shoe brands include Frye, Merrell, Sperry, Hunter, UGG, FSNY and Fly.

This will be Sease's fourth store she has operated with previous locations in Maine and Cohasset, MA. There is only one other shoe store in town, Irving's Shoes, which has been in operation since the 1970s.

Shoe Port will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays, noon to 5 p.m.
