Crews Demolish Seafare Inn To Build 'Affordable' Housing

A total of 33 townhouse-style homes in 13 buildings will be constructed on the site.

The has been demolished in order for townhouses to be built, reports The Sakonnet Times. 

According to the Sakonnet Times, 33 townhouse-style homes in 13 buildings will be constructed on the East Main Road property. Nine of these 13 buildings will offer affordable housing in accordance with state regulations, reports The Sakonnet Times. 

The former restaurant building, a Victorian mansion circa-1887 once owned by Frederick Webb, founder of the clothing store Cherry & Webb, was restored by owner George Karousos in the late 1980s.

It housed Karousos' restaurant, the Seafare Inn, for more than 25 years.

Apollo Brothers LLC purchased the property in 2010 for $620,000. Apollo made an offer on the property, which was placed in receivership, a state form of bankruptcy, after banks foreclosed on Karousos' assets in December 2009.
