Council To Discuss Police Incidents At 2 Local Businesses

The Portsmouth Town Council will hear about two incidents involving the police department at two area businesses: Fieldstones Grille and the Island Tap.

The Portsmouth Town Council will hear about police incidents at two local businesses, Fieldstones Grille and The Island Tap, at Monday night's meeting.

In a letter from new Portsmouth Police Chief Thomas F. Lee to the Board of License Commissioners, Lee discusses two incidents that occurred in December.

Fieldstones Grille drug arrest

On Dec. 4, at 4 p.m., police arrested Fieldstones Grille employee Gardner Devos in the restaurant parking lot, 980 East Main Road. Devos was charged with possession/delivery of a controlled substance.

According to the letter, Devos was arrested after a more than month-long investigation. Police say Devos allegedly distributed drugs in the Fieldstones' parking lot during work hours.

At the time of his arrest, police found Devos in possession of the following: 12.23 grams of MDMA (Molly) drug, 5.87 grams of cocaine, 230 packets of heroine, a digital scale and cash.

Island Tap Liquor License Violation

The second incident occurred on Dec. 5 at 1:25 a.m. at the Island Tap, 568 Park Ave.

According to the letter, police conducting a business check found three patrons with alcohol inside the Island Tap bar at 1:10 a.m. (after the close of business). The bartender told police she would be "getting them out soon."

At 1:20 a.m., police saw a man enter the Island Tap. They returned to the bar to find three patrons inside at 1:25 a.m., which is a violation of liquor laws.

The Portsmouth Town Council will be asked to review these incidents as members of the Board of License Commissioners at Monday's meeting.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
