Man Falls 70 Feet Off Mt. Hope Bridge

Correction: A previous version of this article cited incorrect information about the distance the victim fell. The RITBA has verified the man fell 70 feet.

A worker on the Mt. Hope Bridge was rushed to a hospital after falling off the bridge Tuesday morning, reports EastBayRI.com. The man was working on the bridge, when he fell off scaffolding, according to EastBayRI.com
The man fell approximately 70 feet, according to a Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority spokesperson.
The worker was transported by Bristol Rescue around 9:15 a.m. to Rhode Island Hospital. His medical condition is unknown at this time.

The man was not an employee of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, but a subcontractor.

"We are deeply saddened by this incident and are awaiting the results of the investigation," said David Darlington, chairman of the RITBA.

Messages left with Bristol Rescue were not immediately returned as of Tuesday morning.
