In a complete turnaround Tuesday night, the Rhode Island House Finance Committee approved new legislation, introduced Monday, that restores tolls on the Sakonnet River Bridge and establishes a new toll rate of 10 cents, according to Projo.com

The Rhode Island Senate later voted 29-8 in approval. The bill now heads to the governor for signature.

The bill also moves the date of toll collection to this August and "removes language that banned increases on tolls on the Pell Bridge," according to  Projo.com.

The bill headed to the House Tuesday night, the last night of the legislative session, as lawmakers sprint to finish the session. Many lawmakers spoke out against the bill.
