Driver Scares Neighbors After Car Travels Between Houses

What sounded like a harrowing car crash sent neighbors running from their homes Monday evening to find a bewildered and uninjured driver standing behind the Connors Funeral Home.

Just after 7:15 p.m. Monday, a green Subaru station wagon traveled off West Main Road and through a grass yard off Willow Lane, before ending up with three flat tires behind the Connors Funeral Home.

The driver, 32-year-old Ryan Deblois of Portsmouth, said he lost control of the vehicle.

"I hit the brakes and slid off the road, and that was it," he said.

Deblois stated he was uninjured, but was later transported by Portsmouth Rescue.

Witnesses said they saw the station wagon drive through the narrow yard, and strike two trees and a utility pole before coming to a full stop.

Neighbors rushed from homes to check on the noise immediately after the crash.

Portsmouth police arrived minutes later. The incident remains under investigation.
