Subcontractor Dies After Fall From Bridge


The subcontractor, who fell 70 feet from Mt. Hope Bridge Tuesday morning, has died, reports EastBayRI.com

The 47-year-old Connecticut man, an employee of TDA Construction Inc., of Tarrytown, NY, fell 70 feet from the bridge to a gravel road below, according to EastBayRI.com.

He was later transported by Bristol Rescue to Rhode Island Hospital. 

“On behalf of the board of directors and employees of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the worker’s family, friends, colleagues and loved ones for their loss," said RITBA Chairman David Darlington. 

Work on both the Mouth Hope Bridge and Pell Bridge was ordered to a stop Tuesday after the fall. 

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident, reports The Providence Journal

Several messages left with Bristol Fire and Rescue were not returned as of Tuesday afternoon.
