Aquidneck Production 'Moonrise Kingdom' to Hit Theaters in May

The Rhode Island Film & TV Office announced this afternoon that Focus Features has issued the release date for "Moonrise Kingdom," the Wes Anderson-directed picture that was filmed across Aquidneck Island in 2011. The film will debut in theaters on Friday, May 25, 2012. 

The film features an all-star cast, including Ed Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Harvey Keitel and Bob Balaban. Many of these stars, as you'll recall, were  this past summer. Murray even. The film based some operations out of the former John F. Kennedy Middle School in Middletown.

"Moonrise Kingdom" follows the tale of a young boy and girl (performed by Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) who fall in love and run away together while a variety of townspeople mobilize to search for them on a unique island off the coast of New England in the 1960’s.
