Register Now for the 3rd Annual Pell Bridge Run

Space is filling up fast in the RITBA's Third Annual Pell Bridge Run.

Registration for the third annual Newport Pell Bridge Run is underway and space is filling up fast.

The run, which is sponsored by the state Turnpike and Bridge Authority and Citizens Bank, spans the Newport Pell Bridge and opens space to about 2,000 runners - 25 percent of that space is already filled.

“Before formally opening registration we had 500 entrants for the event,” said David Darlington, chairman of RITBA. “The success of last year’s race gave us good word of mouth, and we know people are eager to once again experience the incredible view of Narragansett Bay from the bridge that can normally be witnessed only by vehicle.”

Thousands of participants are expected to turn out and take advantage of this once yearly opportunity to cross the Newport Pell Bridge on foot. The 4.2-mile run of extraordinary scenic views will begin at 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 10 near the RITBA headquarters in Jamestown. After crossing the bridge, runners will pass through downtown Newport and cross the finish line at the Newport Yachting Center.

The run is open to everyone - walkers and families included. To register, visit www.PellBridgeRun.com.

“Citizens Bank is proud to again partner with the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority in bringing a healthy, enjoyable experience to runners all over New England,” said Ned Handy, president, Citizens Bank, Rhode Island and Connecticut. “The race will benefit several of our community partners and have an impact long after the last runner has crossed the finish line.”

The pre-registration fee is $45 per person. Proceeds from the run will benefit several not-for-profit organizations throughout Rhode Island. After Aug. 31, the registration fee will increase.

Additional sponsorship opportunities are available and interested parties should contact Matt Gray at 401-318-2991 or via email matt@pellbridgerun.com.
