Portsmouth Woman Wins $50K From Scratch Ticket
A Portsmouth woman is now $50,000 richer after playing the lottery.
A woman from Portsmouth is now $50,000 richer thanks to the Rhode Island lottery.
The woman, who was not identified, played the "Wild Cherry Crossword" Instant Ticket.
According to lottery officials, she first thought she just won $2,000. Upon arriving at Rhode Island Lottery Headquarters, however, she discovered it was actually a $50,000 winning ticket.

"She's very excited to be able to pay off bills and said a vacation sounds nice right about now as well," according to a press release from the Rhode Island Lottery Tuesday.
Newport Mart, located at 52 East Main Road in Middletown, sold the lucky ticket.
