The first-ever Atria Aquidneck Place Classic Car Show was a smashing success on Sunday, with more than 70 cars participating and the Rhode Island Alzheimer's Association benefiting from the proceeds.

The Best in Show Winner was none other than Portsmouth Firefighter Brendan Martin, whose impeccable 1963 ambulance "won the hearts and admiration of many," said Pamela Kopplin, community sales director at Atria Aquidneck Place.

Other winners were a 1957 Pontiac from Middletown, which took home the Resident's Choice award, a 1957 Chevy Truck from Portsmouth (Best Truck), a 1979 Mercedes from Wakefield (Best Foreign Car), a 1957 BelAir from Swansea (Best Domestic) and a 1966 Mustang from Little Compton (People's Choice).

Atria Aquidneck Place is an assisted living community situated in Portsmouth. Along with providing a place to live for many older adults, it hosts numerous events throughout the year.
