Rhode Island ranked at the bottom of yet another national poll.

A recently published Gallup Poll found 42 percent of residents said they would like to move to another state. Only four other states had higher percentages, with Illinois at the top at 50 percent.

Rhode Island ranked so low because of widespread dissatisfaction with state taxesstate government, and "overall perceptions of how their state compares to others as a place to live," the poll found.

Another recent Gallup poll ranked Rhode Island dead-last in terms of percentage of residents who view their state as the "best to live in."

Rhode Island's economy is currently in shambles; last month it the highest unemployment rate in the country at 8.7 percent.

I love RI. I've lived in OH, DE, GA, TX and Germany, an visited most states in US. Moved here in '05 at height of housing market so upside down in house but we do own a home. Sure taxes are high an politics out of control. That said we have a wonderful community with awesome people. Access to great museums, all kinds of events an breathtaking landscape. Ever been to DE? Once beach season ends not a damn thing to do there. We plan to head south when retire for nice weather as our years run out but I know I will miss this gem I am thankful to call home now.
Can't Wait To Leave May 04, 2014 at 09:31 AM
Eric the statement "can't figure out how to leave a roughly 40 mile long and 30 miles wide" shows the IQ that most of our young and talented people do leave this state. It's very easy to move out of a state that stays in the crapy shape it's in for ever. Read the posts, people don't want to leave the family and good friends for the most part.

Hey Carpenter, pretty soon you'll actually have to go down the ballot and vote for individual candidates instead of drawing that line to D. I hope a person of your limited intellectual means can handle this complex process.

Kim . You forget to mention that Delaware's summer season is quite a bit longer than here in Rhode Island just for the fact that Delaware's south shore is greatly more south than Rhode Island is . Delaware is very corrupt also

pamohearn : you are the perfect example of the low info voter who are always democrats . Take a tour of any urban area in RI and witness the enormity of the Section 8 housing projects . They are breeding grounds of American Communist Socialism installed by democrats beginning with LBJ's "War on Poverty" and the "Great Society" social welfare programs . 22 Trillion has been spent on this democrat agenda yet there is more poverty now than in the past 50 years of this bottomless well of a program. I'd love to know where you were undereducated as I spent a great many years working within socialism and it's ills unlike yourself and I can attest that socialism has never worked anywhere where it's been forced on it's subjects . Can you name even one success story of a mooching society dependent on government handouts ?
